Overview
Finance is the language of business. The Bachelor of Science in Finance at MSOE allows students to become fluent in the language of business by focusing on learning how individuals and business organizations raise capital, and how those resources are allocated among competing investment opportunities to create value. Through the finance program, students gain an understanding of financial theory and practice, how to analyze financial statements while evaluating the health of a firm, to apply financial modeling skills for the valuation of the firm, securities and other financial vehicles, portfolio management strategies, to evaluate portfolio performance, and effective communication skills and teamwork. Finance is a broad field that prepares students for positions in corporations, investment firms, government, banks and entrepreneurship.
Graduates with a B.S. in Finance from the Rader School of Business will be able to:
- Strategically analyze, evaluate, and solve business problems using technology and an understanding of the social context
- Prepare and deliver, concise, persuasive stakeholder-centered information in a professional manner
- Develop leaders of character who promote effectiveness in working with and leading diverse teams
- Exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset
- Calculate and analyze the volatilities of individual stocks compared to the volatility of an equally weighted portfolio

Finance, B.S. Version S1A (German Study Abroad Program, MSOE students)
This map is taken by MSOE students in the Finance major who enroll at Technische Hochschule Lübeck (THL) in Lübeck, Germany, for their third year. Students follow the regular Finance major path for their first, second, and fourth years. Year two and three courses may have to shift to maintain prerequisite chains for Finance majors. Speak to an advisor as early in your program as possible.
Year Three (MSOE students at THL)
There are over 20 courses delivered in English to choose from at THL.
- Students need to earn 30 semester credits (10 courses) to stay on track while at THL.
- Students need to meet with their academic advisor before travel to ensure the appropriate courses are taken, courses will transfer correctly, and prerequisite chains remain intact.
Required courses
- 2 classes (6 credits) in humanities, social sciences, or communication areas (would meet Raider Core CLOs)
- 8 other business electives that align with required major courses or major electives.
Speak with your MSOE academic advisor to verify the correct classes are chosen before travel.
