The Raider Core

Overview

MSOE’s academic programs are designed to provide students with a deep knowledge of their discipline as well as a broad understanding of their responsibilities within society and the communities they serve. An integral part of this education is associated with a student’s exposure to and understanding of a set of Common Learning Outcomes (CLOs) that are addressed within program-specific courses as well as MSOE’s general education program, known as the Raider Core. The Raider Core provides students with an educational experience that is grounded in the liberal arts - namely the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and fine arts. The knowledge gained within the Raider Core assists students as they explore issues that span multiple fields of study and best prepares them to address and solve complex problems in their chosen profession. In addition, out-of-classroom and co-curricular experiences also contribute to a student’s exposure to and understanding of the Common Learning Outcomes.

As such, we seek to educate and develop students who, upon graduation, achieve an ability to:

  • Collaborate Successfully
  • Communicate Effectively
  • Demonstrate Ethical Understanding
  • Embrace Diversity
  • Exhibit Curiosity
  • Think Critically
  • Integrate Learning

Furthermore, we aspire for our graduates to embody the MSOE Mindset and become:

  • Leaders of Character
  • Responsible Professionals
  • Passionate Learners
  • Value Creators
