NUR 3021 - Acquisition of Psychomotor Skills and Integration of Clinical Reasoning II0 lecture hours 3 lab hours 1 credits Course Description This course is the second of a two-part lab series in which students acquire the knowledge and psychomotor skills necessary to deliver safe and effective nursing care. Students gain confidence and skill proficiency through self-directed, deliberate, and repetitive practice, while receiving guided and constructive feedback on their performance. Integration of knowledge, skill, and attitudes occurs as students participate in a variety of experiential labs and simulated clinical experiences to make conscious connections between knowledge and actions. An emphasis in the simulated clinical experience is to strengthen students’ clinical reasoning, prioritization, delegation, and teamwork skills. Prereq: NUR 3011 (quarter system prereq: NU 3000, NU 3000L) Coreq: NUR 3020 Note: None This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate psychomotor skills and operation of biomedical technologies with increasing proficiency to support safe, effective, quality person-centered care aligned with best practices in lab setting and during simulated clinical experiences (Person-Centered Care, Informatics and Healthcare Technologies)
- Demonstrate progression of clinical reasoning skills in the care of clients during simulated clinical experiences (Clinical Judgment)
- Critically reflect on one’s approach while incorporating constructive feedback to further develop skill proficiency and clinical reasoning skills (Clinical Judgment, Professional Role)
- Use effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills when preforming and documenting in the lab setting and simulation experiences (Communication)
- Actively participates in facilitated practice lab to develop psychomotor skill proficiency (Professional Role)
- Display a pattern of personal accountability for one’s own learning while assuming a professional role through acts of integrity, mutual respect, and creating a culture of safety to report near miss incidents (Professional Role)
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and delegation in the delivery of nursing care with other team members in simulated clinical experiences (Collaboration)
- Demonstrate understanding of the concept of best practices by explaining the evidence-based rationales behind psychomotor skills and care delivery processes (Evidence-Based Practice)
