The Bachelor of Science in Engineering program provides a general, flexible, interdisciplinary academic experience in the engineering field. It offers a firm grounding in the fundamentals of engineering science and engineering design, as well as numerous elective options that offer the opportunity to customize the technical focus of the degree program. Suggested elective tracks in the areas of product design and enterprise systems are available, but other unique plans of study can be accommodated. The program is tailored to the adult learner, who may have previous college experience, an engineering-related career and very clear professional objectives for continued study in engineering, coupled with a desire to pursue the degree using part-time and evening hours.

Program Educational Objectives

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering will produce engineering graduates who in the first few years after graduation will:

  • use their engineering, design, business and problem-solving skills to contribute professionally in an industrial environment.
  • demonstrate initiative, leadership, ability to work as part of a professional team, and continued development in their professional careers.
  • understand the impact of their professional activities on society.

Student Outcomes

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program, the student will have:

  • an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, business and engineering.
  • an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  • an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within the types of realistic constraints seen in an industrial environment.
  • an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.
  • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • an ability to communicate effectively, using verbal, written and graphical means.
  • the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context.

  • a knowledge of the contemporary issues in his or her profession.

Transfer students who have completed 36 quarter or 24 semester credits or more are expected to complete OR 301  Transfer Student Orientation or OR 307S  Transfer Orientation Seminar.

1 There are 63 credits of elective subjects in the Engineering program, which must be taken as follows:

  • 15 credits from Humanities and Social Sciences (HU/SS), distributed as follows:
    • 3 credits from the Sociology series (SS-47X).
    • 3 credits from courses with a SS designation.
    • 6 credits from courses with a HU designation.
    • 3 credits with either an HU or SS designation.
  • 6 credits from the MA, PH, CH, or SC designations, from an approved list.
  • 3 credits from economics (MS 221  or MS 322 )
  • 21 credits from the Technical Electives list, with at least 18 credits from courses that are 300/3000 level or higher
  • 18 credits from any college-level subject (Free Elective), subject to an approved plan of study.
