Unix, and its open source counterpart Linux, has remained one of the most popular server-side operating systems on the internet. Students are taught the command line interface and scripting languages, to become effective systems administrators of Unix and Linux systems. A special emphasis is placed on system security in the configuration and operation of Unix/Linux systems. Upon completion of the first two courses, students work with the instructor in a 3-credit independent study to perform a capstone project on securing Unix/Linux systems.
