The Intensive Academic English as a Second Language (ESL) Program offers classes in reading and writing, listening and speaking, grammar, and vocabulary for engineering and math. The program has an intensive writing focus, and upon program completion, students will produce two academic research papers with their corresponding presentations. These classes are designed to prepare students to perform successfully in an American university. There are four English proficiency bands, ranging from Pre-intermediate to Advanced. A completion certificate is given for finishing the ESL program.
MSOE’s Dual Admission Program prepares students accepted into a degree program at MSOE, but whose language proficiency is slightly below the minimum required level. Students are enrolled in two MSOE undergraduate credit classes and two to three ESL classes, developed specifically for a freshman undergraduate international student. Courses run for 10-weeks on the MSOE quarter schedule.
