HU 4495A - African History

3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits
This course will use the country of Kenya as a lens through which to view the broader history of Africa. Close attention will be paid to the country’s recent political history, as we discuss such topics as the colonial movement, the anti-colonial movement, the struggle for independence, and post-colonial politics. At the same time, issues of economic development will also be covered. The people of Kenya will remain center stage throughout the quarter, as will the ways such individuals navigated the worlds of ethnicity, political violence, and civil war.
