CS 386 - Introduction to Database Systems2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits This course introduces the theory and practice of database design and application, with emphasis on the relational model. Topics include the SQL data definition and manipulation language, database design using entity-relationship modeling and normalization techniques, application programming interfaces, authentication and access control, transaction processing and concurrency control, and performance optimization. Lab assignments reinforce the lecture material. (prereq: CS 2852 , MA 2310 )
