NUR 4903 - Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice (Part I)2 lecture hours 0 lab hours 2 credits Course Description This course focuses on the concepts of the research process, evidence-based practice (EBP), and the practical application of EBP to enhance clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on students becoming knowledgeable consumers of research while developing an ability to appraise the quality of research and levels of evidence. Focus is on development of skills to apply best evidence retrieved and synthesized from diverse sources of professional literature and population data and integrated with clinician expertise and client preference/values to support decisions that ensure quality and safe care. Prereq: Acceptance into BSN-accelerated nursing program. Transfer course being evaluated meets transfer equivalent Note: None This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Articulate the interrelationships between theory, research, and evidence-based nursing practice including best available evidence, patient preferences and clinical expertise (Evidence-Based Practice)
- Examine the role and responsibilities of the nurse related to research and the development and application of evidence-based practice (Professional Role)
- Develop skill in accessing knowledge through appropriate selection of databases, websites, and strategies to search the literature (Informatics and Healthcare Technologies)
- Define, compare, and contrast the purpose and methodologies of quantitative and qualitative research (Evidence-Based Practice)
- Critically appraise published research studies including the research approach, level of evidence, statistical and clinical significance, and ethical conduct of human subject research (Clinical Judgment/Evidence-Based Practice)
- Complete an integrative review of the literature guided by a relevant clinical question (Evidence-Based Practice)
