UXD 4020 - UX of Physical Products3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course examines the design of physical products emphasizing the human interaction and the environment of use. This course will make the student more aware of the human element in design of physical products. The limitations of the human will be examined through sensory, psychological and biomechanical. Physical design will be examined in healthcare, transportation, gaming, hospitality, and emerging technologies such as VR and AR. Differences in research methods of physical products will be included. The student will be expected to research and complete a project to design a physical product. Prereq: UXD 1001 , junior standing (quarter system prereq: UX 1400 or UX 1400H) Note: None This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the human aspect in physical products
- Describe the sensory-motor processes of people
- Explain information theory and processing
- Judge various types of controls, their functions and usefulness
- Explain anthropometrics data, ergonomics, and biomechanics and their use in design
- Create a product design taking into account the human and environment
- Prioritize trade-offs in physical design
