MI 17020 - Health Care Data Analytics

3 lecture hours 2 lab hours 4 credits
Course Description
In this course, students will explore several domains of health care data analytics, including provider, payer, and patient analytics.  They will learn the current barriers to effective implementation of analytic processes and technologies and identify strategies and frameworks for overcoming these barriers.  Students will also investigate ways to use analytics to improve reimbursement, patient safety, and operational effectiveness. (prereq: MI 15010 , MI 15020 , MI 16010 , MI 16030 )  (coreq: MI 16030  if not previously taken)
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Outline the framework necessary to implement an analytics strategy within an organization.
  • Develop strategies for overcoming barriers to effective use of data analytics.
  • Apply analytics tools and techniques to improve patient outcomes, reimbursement, safety, and operational effectiveness.
  • Synthesize ethical, legal, and social considerations for use of analytics within health care.
