The Graduate and Professional Education Department (GPE) serves as the graduate admissions office for all MSOE masters programs and offers professional engineer re-licensure courses and public offerings. Professional development seminars, certificates, business outreach, and customized training are all facilitated by the department.

Seminars and Workshops

Seminars and workshops are offered to provide working adults the opportunity to stay abreast of cutting-edge technologies, current applications and techniques. Continuing Education Units (CEUs), professional development hours (PDHs) and International Learning Units (ILUs) are awarded to attendees. Formats range from two-hour seminars to longer, more intensive workshops. Registration is available online and certificates and certifications are awarded upon completion of courses.

Certificates

Certificate-level training is conducted to provide the best means to transfer knowledge. In some courses, participants are tested in order to demonstrate an understanding of the material. Some certificates qualify the course completer for academic credit.

Certifications

Certifications go beyond transferring knowledge. Participants are required to pass the required certification tests and must demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge gained. The courses are designed to prepare the learner for certification through course completion and/or preparation to test for certification.

Academic Credit for Certificates and Certifications

Current MSOE students may be eligible to earn academic credit for successful completion  of a certificate or certification. A current student is defined as one who:

  • Has been admitted to an academic program
  • Is in good academic standing
  • Is currently pursuing a degree

A limited number of seats will be available in GPE non-credit offerings for undergraduate or graduate students who wish to participate and who possess the necessary prerequisite background. If a student wishes to receive academic credit for the learning offered in the non-credit experience, he or she must register for an independent study course in the academic term closest to the GPE offering. Quarterly registration deadlines and requirements apply.

The student must work with an approved MSOE faculty member to determine the specific requirements for the learning and establish how learning will be assessed and graded. The faculty member will submit a grade to the Registrar’s Office based on intended/achieved student learning. Student seats will only be available when there are a minimum of ten paid students registered in the GPE course. Students will be wait-listed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be notified of availability of seats in the non-credit offering three days prior to the start of the course.

Please note:

Students should check with their academic advisor to determine if a GPE course satisfies a credit requirement for their academic program.

Corporate Partner Network (CPN)

With approximately 200 member companies, the Corporate Partner Network (CPN) is MSOE’s center for business solutions. The CPN provides networking opportunities for members to share best practices, offers courses relevant to their firms’ strategic goals, and offers a preferred rate for professional training and graduate tuition. To learn if a firm is a CPN member, go to www.msoe.edu/cpn

Customized On Site Training

As part of its services, the CPN provides customized training programs for organizations that can include certificate- and certification-level programs. This enables professionals to take advantage of practical applications within the organization to apply the theory involved with the training. It is possible to arrange for MSOE academic courses to be taught on site at a company’s facility. To initiate and discuss the options for customized training, contact GPE’s director at gpe@msoe.edu.
