NU 6340 - Ethics in Nursing and Health Care2 lecture hours 0 lab hours 2 credits Course Description This course is designed to provide the opportunity to explore ethical theories, frameworks and principles. Emphasis will be placed on challenging the student to explore personal values and beliefs related to ethical decision making and apply ethical principles in clinical practice and health care situations. In addition, students will use the knowledge and skills to address ethical dilemmas in complex health care systems. (prereq: None) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Act with integrity, consistency and respect for differing views
- Analyze and apply ethical principles and systematic, sound reasoning to address ethical dilemmas in advanced nursing practice, complex settings, varied populations and across the lifespan.
- Discuss ethical principles as they apply to organizational levels
- Facilitate a culture of professional empathy
- Compare and contrast the attributes of organizations that maintain high ethical standards
