Overview

Committed to designing for people, User Experience (UX) professionals create user-friendly products and services that make the world better for all.  Our curriculum empowers students to embrace the power of human-centered design and computing to create innovative design solutions to complex problems.  Our Gene Carter Usability Lab provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with community partners, research, design and prototype human-centered interfaces, products, and services.

Educational Objectives

The program aims to produce graduates who will:

  1. Use their education to become productive and contributing professionals in their chosen field.
  2. Demonstrate initiative and leadership in their professional activities.
  3. Demonstrate commitment to continued professional development.
  4. Understand the impact of their professional activities on society.

Student Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

  1. Identify and employ inclusive, human-centered design and other appropriate methodologies to create innovative products and services
  2. Explain and effectively apply visual, user interface, voice, and data visualization design principles
  3. Analyze user needs to synthesize data and conduct user research
  4. Demonstrate proficiency in core front-end and contemporary technologies
  5. Exercise professional integrity by evaluating and applying ethical standards of UX and contemporary technology
  6. Navigate team dynamics and collaborate effectively
  7. Exhibit proficiency in oral, written, interpersonal, and visual communication
  8. Select and use appropriate professional software and tools

1The noted CLO is a placeholder. Raider Core electives can be taken in any order, as long as Exhibit Curiosity , Embrace Diversity , and Demonstrate Ethical Understanding are all covered. With some exceptions, these courses must be taught out of the Humanities, Social Science, and Communication Department.

2ANT, PHL, PSY, AND SOC courses taken as program electives must be unique and taken separately from the Raider Core electives.
