Designed to accommodate busy professionals, the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) courses are available through either online or blended-online format. The online format allows convenience for distance learning while the blended-online format combines the benefits of face-to-face interaction with the convenience of online learning. Both formats provide flexibility to balance graduate education with work and family responsibilities.

Accreditation

The master’s degree program in nursing at Milwaukee School of Engineering is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

Program Goals

Within a few years of graduation, graduates of the MSN program at MSOE will be able to:

  • Lead others and manage resources in complex health care systems with a sense of social and ethical responsibility
  • Have the knowledge and skills desired by employers to progress in their desired career path
  • Improve systems in health care to positively impact outcomes for patients, families, and communities

Graduates of the MSN program at MSOE will be able to:

Leadership and Management Track


The Leadership and Management track of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program from MSOE, with its unique blend of nursing and business concepts, will equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to function effectively in health care systems. MSOE’s MSN program is based on the fact that nurses at mid-management, executive levels and nurse entrepreneurs must have the capacity to manage financial resources, manage human capital, analyze large data sets, understand complex organizational systems, and ensure quality and safety, all through the lens of nursing practice.

Year One

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track


The MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program has been developed for the student who has an interest in providing wholistic care to clients who have a mental or behavioral health challenge. Students will integrate best practice in the care of clients, from prescribing to the implementation of psychotherapies in the treatment plan.

The program is designed for students who have a BS in Nursing. It meets CCNE criteria for accreditation and the NONPF competencies. Students will complete a total of 600 practicum hours in the program and will complete the program in two years if full-time status is maintained.

MSN Direct Entry Leadership and Management Track


The MSN Direct Entry is designed specifically for the adult professional who has already earned a bachelor’s degree in another discipline and is looking to change careers. The MSN Direct Entry is a compressed, year-round curriculum designed to enable students to enter the workforce as professional nurses in approximately 18 months, assuming the student has met all of the prerequisites. Students will then seamlessly progress into their MSN courses.

Students entering this program will already have the following courses on their BSN transcript: 

NU 6000 : Theory and Roles 1: Philosophy of Care

NU 6020 : Theory and Roles 2: Creating Change 

NU 6030 : Evaluating Care: Research and Project

NCLEX Exam will be taken in the Spring Quarter following conferral of the BSN.
