BUS 1850 - Information and Operations Technology3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description In this course, the use of technology in the areas of information management and operations in a business context is explored. The basics of technology components (hardware, software, communications, data) are presented, and an emphasis is placed on introducing the use and function of core information systems and industrial technology. Business technology ethics and security issues are discussed. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the meaning of information and operations technology
- Describe the role of technology as a competitive strategy
- Identify and discuss key ethical and security concepts related to technology in business
- Identify and describe the key components that comprise technology systems
- Explain the use and function of core business information management systems
- Describe various technology devices and systems used in industrial control
