BUS 4820 - Enterprise Resource Planning3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course introduces Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. The foundations of these systems will be explored in depth, such as understanding how Strategic Planning, MPS and MRP drive the ERP system, selection of software, integration of processes and transactions, and challenges associated with successful implementation of ERP applications. Topics will build upon the basics introduced from BUS - 3820 and expand on how the ERP system is structured. Focus will be on how the various functional areas utilize the Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II), modules to generate information necessary for their daily activities. This course introduces students to the ERP software from SAP as a means of performing process activities from various functional areas. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explore the order entry process, order change management, and order tracking processes used in ERP systems to keep the customers in the loop on schedule status
- Utilize ERP to review design engineering practices concerning Engineering change management, new product development, and the design release and control processes
- Formulate quality systems as they relate to internal activities (receiving inspection, non-conforming materials, product testing) and outside activities (supplier audits, certification programs, and defective material dispositioning)
- Prepare SAP’s ERP software to perform basic production planning and control tasks related to course topics (e.g., sales and customer service, warehouse management, human resources, finance and control, and project engineering)
- Adapt Theory of Constraints (TOC), practices to production planning and control activities
- Communicate how the various pull systems such as JIT, Kanban, Conwip, and POLCA operate within normal manufacturing and service processes
