BUS 3200 - Principles of Economics and Financial Decision-Making3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This is a survey class of economics and financial decision-making. The course material emphasizes analysis and decision-making related to microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, financial statements, time value of money, and capital budgeting. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Strengthen analytical/problem-solving skills by applying economic and financial criteria to decisions
- Develop an appreciation for the dynamic environment of business, the need for it to add value to its product or service markets, and the necessity to make decisions that are financially sound
- Demonstrate the value to business of analyzing demand and supply, price elasticities, marginal utility, and decision-making with uncertainty
- Develop an appreciation for the macroeconomic environment and international trade
- Articulate the sources for acquiring investment capital and the multiple techniques for evaluating a rate of return on investment decisions
- Solve a limited set of investment problems that include concepts such as time value, net present value, and annuities
