BUS 3790 - Web Design I

Course Description
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and publish a website and a ftp client onto the internet. Topics include website design for a target audience, coding in XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets for formatting, implementing JavaScript, HTML 5 features, creating images and reading site statistics for marketing purposes, as well as creating graphics and animation, and form design adding JavaScript validation. Page layout, type formatting, and special effects will be completed using Cascading Style Sheets. Students will create a website using CSS techniques, making sure it is viable in many browsers. (prereq: none)
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Gain an understanding of the internet and the technologies that are used on it
  • Code XHTML pages by hand
  • Design layout and create a website and design and manage web pages using web design strategies
  • Include a Cascading Style sheet on the website that contains the three types of styles (custom formatting, redefine HTML tags, and linking)
  • Create and include web forms and tables on the site
  • Develop an understanding of HTML5 features - Canvas
  • Create frames and hot spots on the web pages
  • Use site statistics to improve marketing website
  • Create a website that implements CSS, JavaScript, includes headers and navigation on all the pages, all web pages are accessible from all web pages, and stays within the color palette selected. The site is designed according to the standards outlined in usability.gov
  • Create a form that integrates into a site
  • Incorporate JavaScript validation to the form to ensure good data is received from the form
  • Apply CSS special effects such as multiple style sheets, elastic design, or background imagery to a web site
  • Publish web pages in a domain
