BUS 4490 - Human Resources3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course examines the activities that comprise the management of human resources (HR) in a business. The scope and intent of human resource practices are identified from a management perspective with emphasis on employing people in the most ethical, equitable, compliant, and engaging manner possible. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Articulate understanding of historic, current, and emerging strategic HR challenges and trends to navigate the dynamic HR landscape
- Describe and apply the legal framework, company human resources needs, and financial constraints related to decisions on recruitment, selection, and hiring practices within organizations
- Evaluate the processes of compensating employees in an organization. Reviewing financial implications, legal landscape, diversity, and engagement models for justification
- Develop performance management and development models that are fiscally justified, legally appropriate, and engaging to employees
- Assess best practices and processes in employee discipline and separation for an organization
