BUS 3445 - Leadership Communication

Course Description
Do you have what it takes to be a leader? You may not think so, but everyone can be a leader, but not every leader can be successful in every setting. This class addresses leadership styles and skills across various situations and provides students the opportunity to explore and develop leadership and leadership communication. Course activities will move the student from theory to the practical processes of leadership, effective and ethical leadership communication tools, and increase your effectiveness as a leader using your personality and strengths. Basic concepts essential to leadership skills development, motivational theories, and interpersonal relationship management are key building blocks in this course. (prereq: sophomore standing)
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Evaluate individual leadership strengths and weaknesses in various situations
  • Demonstrate leadership communication strategies across various situations and platforms using written and verbal modalities
  • Apply cultural sensitivity when communicating in diverse groups and organizations
  • Debate use of motivational strategies, personal power sources, and interpersonal politics to lead effectively
  • Exemplify interpersonal skills related to leadership communication: impromptu communication, professional opinion sharing, navigating crucial conversations, and ethics in communication
