IND 1000 - Introduction to Industrial Engineering

Course Description
This course is an introduction to the field of Industrial Engineering (IE). The course introduces students to terminology, methodologies, and software as well as other tools used in IE, along with expectations for professionalism and ethical behavior. (prereq: none)
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Define industrial engineering
  • Summarize historic and contemporary views of IE
  • Identify the fundamental canons and rules of practice of the NSPE Code of Ethics for Engineers
  • Identify basic statistics used to understand and solve problems
  • Summarize different specialties within IE (i.e., quality, manufacturing, ergonomics, and operations research)
  • Create a basic flowchart associated with a work process
  • Identify which IE tools are necessary to solve different problems
  • Identify different strategies of leadership and motivation
