CON 3071 - Construction Jobsite and Equipment Management

Course Description
This course discusses construction jobsite management including mass grading, stockpiling, and temporary erosion control. Students will also look at issues of jobsite layout and control and develop logistical plans for a construction site. In addition, this course provides a working knowledge of powered equipment types. Internal rental rate compilation, buy-lease-rent, and repair-replace decisions, maintenance management, detailed determination of costs and schedule relating to building foundation construction and to crane lifting operations are introduced. Jobsite safety issues will be discussed throughout. (prereq: sophomore standing)
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify common construction equipment types and operations
  • Calculate cut and fill quantities using the average-end-area method
  • Develop a mass diagram
  • Calculate internal rental rate and production unit costs for various pieces of construction equipment
  • Select appropriate construction equipment based on the type and amount of work to be accomplished, and project-level and enterprise-level equipment management concerns
  • Devise a jobsite layout and logistics plan
