CON 2001 - Introduction to Construction Management2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course discusses construction jobsite management and leadership issues that would be encountered by entry level employees and interns. Students will explore numerous jobs and types of firms in the construction industry and be introduced to Request for Information (RFIs), shop drawings, and the submittal process. Other on-site issues such as project recordkeeping, communication, and technology will also be introduced. Leadership strategies and tactics will also be discussed. This course is not eligible for credit as a technical elective in the Civil or Architectural Engineering degree programs. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe basic strategies in business communication, both orally and in written form, that are common in the construction industry
- Demonstrate basic strategies for construction recordkeeping
- Prepare proper shop drawings and RFIs for a construction project
- Identify leadership strategies
- Explain principles in quality assurance and quality control on a construction project
- Apply ethical standards to issues that a construction manager faces
