NS 1151 - Navigation 13 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description Theory, principles and procedures of ship navigation and movements. Nautical astronomy, oceanographic factors, piloting, celestial navigation, celestial sights, and other navigational methods. Discusses the rules and procedures governing naval transits. (prereq: Non-NROTC students require consent of department chair) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the rules and regulations governing maritime travel
- Demonstrate knowledge of different tools and platforms used to navigate at sea
- Understanding of lights and signals used to communicate with other vessels
- Demonstrate an ability to effectively fix position and navigate in a variety of depths of water
