HU 410F - French I2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits Course Description The objective of this course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of the French language. The course will teach all four aspects of the learning of a foreign language: reading, writing, speaking and understanding. Particular emphasis will be laid from the very beginning on correct pronunciation. The course will start with a brief historic presentation of the origins of the French language and continue with the alphabet and spelling. Major effort will go into having the students understand the phonetic value of the French vowels. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Read and pronounce basic French words
- Demonstrate an understanding of elementary French grammar
- Ask simple questions in French and answer them
- Demonstrate an understanding about French geography and some institutions
