MI 15030 - Communication Strategies for Change and Project Management2 lecture hours 4 lab hours 4 credits Course Description In this course, students will develop communication strategies for leading change within complex systems. The course will discuss how to structure and execute projects to implement identified changes and develop effective communication plans throughout the change process. Students will explore the need to affect multiple aspects of an organization, such as people, systems, and policies, when leading change efforts. (prereq: MI 15000 , MI 15010 , MI 15020 ) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use emotional intelligence skills to identify the communication and change management needs of diverse stakeholders
- Assess organizational culture, risk tolerance, and behavior to inform the choice of change management strategy
- Formulate a communication plan based on organizational and audience analysis
- Prepare a project plan that incorporates change management and communication strategies
Prerequisites by Topic
- To identify appropriate communication strategies for managing projects and changes, students must have fundamental understanding of the health care environment in which they work, as well as a grounding in informatics concepts. As a result, the entire course (vs. per topic) requires content from MI 15000 , MI 15010 , and MI 15020 for a student to be successful
