MI 15020 - Overview of Informatics2 lecture hours 0 lab hours 2 credits Course Description In this course, students will explore multiple facets of informatics and discuss the evolution of the field. Key functions of existing health information systems will be discussed, including current challenges and opportunities. Students will also investigate the role of professional and standards organizations and the impact of evolving regulation on the implementation of informatics strategies and solutions. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Outline the multi-faceted nature of informatics across biomedical, medical, nursing, and related domains
- Synthesize emerging technologies and challenges within medical informatics
- Evaluate sources of informatics information, such as peer-reviewed journals and professional organizations
- Model the key functions of informatics systems, including related standards, regulations, and infrastructure components
