BE 3005 - Professional Topics in BE2 lecture hours 0 lab hours 2 credits Course Description This course introduces students to a range of important professional biomedical engineering topics. These include, but are not limited to: codes and standards (including JCAHO, NFPA, NEC, AAMI, ANSI, 60601, etc), patient and worker safety, the regulation of medical devices (including the FDA device approval process (coverage of the QSR Design Control requirements are deferred to later courses)), career options (incl. clinical engineering/healthcare technology management and graduate and professional school), finding internships, jobs and graduates programs, professional licensure - FE and PE exams, finding and using technical literature, intellectual property considerations, and entrepreneurship and business aspect of healthcare and medical devices.
