TC 433 - Knowledge Management3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This is a survey course encompassing the fundamentals of knowledge management (KM) for technical communication. KM is becoming an increasingly important discipline that promotes the discovery, capture, sharing, and application of an organization’s knowledge for the purpose of creating competitive advantage through a learning organization. The course will look at KM through the eyes of a content creator and knowledge manager. (prereq: EN 132 or advanced writing skills, selected articles and readings) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Execute a clear understanding of what knowledge management is and how it benefits an organization
- Effectively employ the principles and basic functions of KM technology such as portals, blogs, websites, databases, content management tools and collaborative technologies
- Have a better understanding of knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer
- Exercise knowledge of content creation for knowledge management and learning organizations
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of explicit and tacit knowledge for creating competitive advantage
