MS 3420 - International Management3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course explores the dynamic global business environment facing managers who are expected to understand the political, legal, technological, competitive and cultural factors that influence corporations worldwide. Topics emphasize developing the cultural sensitivity and ability to manage across cultural boundaries, design and implement global strategies, and improve the understanding of organization controls and leadership needed within the context of a foreign country’s business practices. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a proficient understanding of management terminology and the array of issues important for firms to be effective in a global business environment
- Explain various management philosophies and leadership theories developed over the last century
- Apply ethical and socially responsible guidelines to delemmas facing professional managers
- Demonstrate a satisfactory understanding of strategic planning, the use of planning tools, and the manager’s role in decision-making and organizational design
- Describe and apply techniques to design a management control system
- Cultivate sensitivity to the diverse set of situations and cultures managers face
