Psychology Minor

A student enrolled in a degree program at MSOE may also earn a Minor in Psychology. Upon completion of this course of study, students will have a broad knowledge of many areas of psychology, along with a strong understanding of the research methodology that plays an integral role in the field of psychology. Understanding of human behavior and thought processes is beneficial for students navigating the diverse workplaces of the 21^st century.

The Minor in Psychology requires a minimum of 27 quarter credits.

Required courses:

SS 460 - Foundations of Psychology 3 credits
SS 461 - Organizational Psychology 3 credits
TC 261 - Research Methods 3 credits

One Statistics course from the following:

MA 315 - Nursing Statistics 3 credits
MA 3610 - Biostatistics 4 credits
MA 340 - Business Statistics 4 credits
MA 262 - Probability and Statistics 3 credits
MA 3620 - Random Variables and Statistics 3 credits

Three other Psychology courses from the following:

SS 462 - Developmental Psychology 3 credits
SS 464 - Human Factors in Engineering and Design 3 credits
SS 466 - Abnormal Psychology 3 credits
SS 467 - Social Psychology 3 credits

Two Social Science or Humanities courses from the following:

HU 4200 - Linguistics: Scientific Study of Language 3 credits
SS 474 - The Family 3 credits
SS 476 - Death and Dying 3 credits
SS 475 - Addictions and Compulsions 3 credits

Note:

It would be ideal for students to take Foundations of Psychology before other psychology courses, but not necessary.
Statistics will be utilized in the Research Methods course. Again, it would be ideal for students to take statistics prior to Research Methods, but not required.
