Overview

Applied AI for Biomedical Applications is an interdisciplinary certificate program that allows students from any major to develop technical foundations in artificial intelligence and biomedical applications, with special emphasis on biomechanics and medical imaging. Students gain essential skills in Python programming and machine learning techniques through foundational computer science courses, while also completing application-specific coursework that provides foundational knowledge in both biomechanics and medical imaging. To complete the certificate, students select either a practicum pathway or a coursework pathway. Practicum experience offers real-world, industry-derived or research-based AI application projects, where students apply their skills to authentic biomedical challenges, with enrollment dependent on project availability and student qualifications. Alternatively, the coursework pathway covers AI fundamentals and is accessible to all qualified students regardless of major. Students interested in the certificate should consult with the Applied AI for Biomedical Applications Certificate Coordinator to discuss available project options and develop an appropriate course plan for their selected completion pathway. For additional information, see the certificates policy .
