Overview

The Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) program is a technology-oriented management degree designed to meet the needs of engineers, business managers, and other professional and technical personnel desiring to strengthen their management and leadership skills. Graduates of the program possess broad business management knowledge and skills and are prepared to move into leadership positions in a wide range of industries.

The MSEM program is based on the philosophy that, for companies to grow and compete domestically and internationally, their managers and leaders need a deep understanding of technology, management, and effective leadership principles. Faculty members have extensive business experience and are committed to mentoring students to increase students’ value to current and prospective employers. Areas of particular emphasis include organizational leadership, project management, operations management, financial management, technical sales and marketing, entrepreneurship, quality and continuous improvement, policy and strategy, supply chain management, and international business.

Program Outcomes

  1. Strategically analyze, evaluate, and solve business problems using technology and an understanding of the social context
  2. Prepare and deliver concise, persuasive stakeholder-centered information in a professional manner
  3. Develop leaders of character who promote effectiveness in working with and leading diverse teams

Students in the general path complete the 21 credits of core courses, plus a strategy elective (3 credits) and three technical electives (9 credits).

Strategy Elective

Students complete 9 credits of technical electives.

  • Graduate-level engineering courses

OR

  • Graduate-level business courses

New Product Management Specialization


Students in the New Product Management specialization complete the core courses (21 credits), plus the four courses (12 credits) below.

Advanced Business Strategy using AI and Analytics Specialization


Students in the Advanced Business Strategy using AI and Analytics specialization complete the core courses (21 credits), plus the four courses (12 credits) below.

Program total (all specializations): 33 credits


Note:


  • MSOE undergraduates can apply up to 6 credits toward the MSEM degree if they choose to register in 5000-level offerings for their senior electives.
