Required Courses

All students take both of these courses, totaling 8 credits.

• PHY 1110 - Physics I - Mechanics and Thermodynamics 4 credits (or PHY 1110A )
• PHY 1120 - Physics II - Electricity, Magnetism, and Optics 4 credits

Students choose 9 additional credits from the following list:

• PHY 2600 - Introduction to Optics and Photonics 3 credits
• PHY 3530 - Quantum and Modern Physics 3 credits
• PHY 3550 - Nuclear Physics 3 credits
• PHY 3600 - Lasers and Applications 3 credits
• PHY 3700 - Physics of Electronic Materials and Semiconductor Devices 4 credits
• PHY 3810 - Introduction to Biophysics 3 credits
• PHY 3910 - Astronomy and Astrophysics 3 credits
• PHY 4980 - Topics in Physics Variable credits
• SCI 2000 - Sound and Light 3 credits
• SCI 3750 - Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 3 credits

Notes:

Some of the approved courses are offered as part of the regular course offerings, others are only offered if there is sufficient student interest, and many are on a two-year rotating schedule. There is no guarantee of availability of any particular course in any particular semester. Changes in course offerings that will meet the requirements of the minor will be indicated in the Schedule of Classes and in the Undergraduate Academic Catalog.

In addition to scheduled electives, groups of students may also petition the faculty to offer a course different than the scheduled electives. Interested students may contact any department faculty member.
