The MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate (MSN-PMHNP) has been developed for the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) who has an interest in providing wholistic care to clients who have a mental or behavioral health challenge. Students will integrate best practice in the care of clients, from prescribing to the implementation of psychotherapies in the treatment plan.

The program is designed for students who are practicing as an APN or have an MSN. It meets CCNE criteria for accreditation and the NONPF competencies. Students will complete a total of 600 practicum hours in the program and will complete the program in 17 months if full-time status is maintained.

Students who complete the degree are eligible for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) national certification examination as a PMHNP.

Graduates of the MSN program at MSOE will be able to:

  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and social responsibility
  • Exhibit exemplary professional practice in the role of leader, mentor, and role model for nurses
  • Effectively lead and manage the nursing workforce and/or interprofessional teams to deliver high quality, safe patient care
  • Proficiently translate best evidence into practice to influence decisions that are clinically and fiscally responsible
  • Create an environment where relationships are valued, and decision making is shared to ensure quality and safety to all populations
  • Manage the process of change inclusive of policy, health care reform and the influence of globalization
  • Embrace the use of a variety of technologies as an effective and efficient method to support data driven decisions to improve patient outcomes and systems
  • Value the importance of engaging in ongoing personal and professional development through a process of lifelong learning
