This double-major option features an engineering degree with a design specialty, which qualifies graduates to seek licensure as a Professional Engineer. It also provides graduates with the construction project management skills typically needed throughout a career in the construction industry. At the same time, students learn construction budgeting, scheduling, control, and management skills.

Enrollment

Architectural engineering students wishing to add the BSCM degree as a second degree should do so as early in their academic career as possible. However, adding the BSCM major to the BSAE major can be done as late as the middle of the sophomore year without delaying graduation.

Notes:

1 There are 12 credits of humanities and social science (HU/SS) electives, 6 of which must be in the humanities area (HU) and 6 must be in the social science area (SS).

2 All students must choose one of the three specialty sequences of classes beginning in the Winter Quarter of the junior year. Building Structural Systems (BSS), Building Mechanical Systems (BMS), or Building Electrical Power Systems (BEPS).

3 These 3 credits must be taken from the math (MA) or science (BI, CH, PH, SC) areas.

4 A “technical elective” is defined as any AE, CM, CV, engineering, mathematics, science, business administration, technical communication or user experience course, 200/2000 level or higher that is not already required in the curriculum (or equivalent courses from other departments). General engineering (GE), humanities (HU/SS), nursing (NU) or nursing-specific courses/electives, orientation (OR), ROTC (AF, AR, NS), or undergraduate research (UR) courses are not eligible as technical electives.

Students in the Air Force ROTC program may make the following substitutions: AF 3131  for EN 441 , AF 3132  for AE 4412 , AF 4141  for SS 455  (an SS elective).

Students in the Army ROTC program may make the following substitutions: AR 3100  for EN 441 , AR 3200  or AR 3300  for AE 4412  and AR 4100  for SS 455  (an SS elective)

Students are required to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam as a condition of graduation. Students must present official results to the Registrar’s Office as proof of having satisfied this requirement.

The Architectural Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

The Construction Management program is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) of ABET, http://www.abet.org.
