Notes:
1 The physics/chemistry elective is satisfied by taking either PH 2031 or both CH 302 and CH 303 ; the math/science elective may be selected from (1) any MA 300 level and above course (except MA 340 , MA 3501 , and MA 3502 ), (2) any BI or SC prefixed course, (3) any CH 200 level and above course, (4) any PH 300 level and above course, or (5) CV 502 . A minimum of 10 credits total from these courses is required for graduation.
2 All students must choose one of the four specialization tracks within civil engineering: ConM - Construction Management, EWRE - Environmental and WasteWater Engineering, StrE - Structural Engineering, or Transpo - Transportation Engineering
3 There are 15 credits of humanities and social sciences (HU/SS) electives: 6 credits minimum from the humanities and 6 credits minimum from the social sciences; at least 3 credits must be selected from the political science series (SS 45X)
4 An undergraduate technical elective is a course that may be selected from the engineering, science, math, technical communications, user experience, or business areas (200-level or above). A course used to satisfy the science, physics/chemistry, or math/science elective requirements cannot be used to satisfy this requirement. At least one course must be used to take a 300/3000 level or above design course from a second specialty area within civil engineering (EWRE students already meet this requirement as part of their specialty courses). Any course containing the term “design” in the course title plus CM 3210 , CM 3250 , CM 5045 and CV 3320 satisfies this requirement.
5 May substitute BA 1221 or BA 2222 for BA 2220
6 Graduate Technical Electives may be chosen from AE, CV, and MB prefixed courses numbered 500/5000 level and above
7 Graduate Electives may be chosen from any course numbered 500/5000 level and above
8 Students have the option to complete a three-course Capstone Project option (CV 8900 , CV 8910 , CV 8920 ) or instead to a research option that consists of taking CV 8000 and two additional graduate technical elective courses that are at least 3 credits each.
Students are required to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in their fourth or fifth year, as a condition of graduation.
Admission to the MS portion of the BS/MS CVE program in the student’s senior year is contingent upon maintaining a minimum overall MSOE GPA of 3.0 or above and the student will have to apply in writing, and admission is at the discretion of the Program Director.
Students in the Air Force ROTC program can make the following substitution: AF 4142 for SS-45X course.
