Program Description

Committed to designing for people, User Experience (UX) professionals create user-friendly products and services that make the world a better, easier place to live in. As a UX student, you will learn how to solve hard problems through design thinking and collaboration (think Post-it Notes and white boards), user-centered design techniques (think sketching and prototyping) and user research (think watching and talking to people). Our curriculum empowers you to embrace existing technologies (think apps, websites, digital dashboards and displays) and emerging technologies (think AR, VR, and AI) with core courses in interface design, front-end development, design research and strategy. Your learning at MSOE will mirror how you will work in industry. You will work closely with faculty and peers through project-based learning, strengthening your ability to work within the fast-paced workplace of today. 

Educational Objectives

The program aims to produce graduates who will:

Student Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

  • Recognize and apply visual and UI design principles to create user-friendly products and services
  • Analyze user needs to synthesize data and conduct user research 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in core front-end technologies to create user experience deliverables 
  • Evaluate and apply ethical standards of UX and emerging technologies 
  • Collaborate effectively and employ conflict management skills to team interactions
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral, written, interpersonal, and visual communication 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and applications of professional software and tools

Notes:


19 credits of major electives are required. Major electives can be any college level course relevant to the degree. Major electives must be approved by the PD. 

215 credits of HU/SS are required. Of them, six credits must be taken in HU and six credits in SS. 

3 Students must have a minimum of four credits of college level science courses, appropriate for the program curriculum. An associated lab must be part of the academic experience. The sum total of the college-level courses in mathematics and science must meet the minimum of 16 credits. 

4Three additional credits in any one of the three categories (Mathematics and Science, Professional Preparedness, and Humanities & Social Science).
