The electrical engineering program (BSEE) at MSOE places a very strong emphasis on design, applications and experience-based learning through laboratory experimentation. The laboratory is a great place to work out the details of your understanding of the theory. Consequently, the BSEE program at MSOE prepares its graduates for successful entry into the engineering profession, as well as for graduate school.

There are multiple curriculum tracks for the BSEE program at MSOE. One track provides BSEE students the opportunity to study-abroad in their junior year at the Technische Hochschule Lübeck (THL) in Lübeck, Germany. This is a tremendous opportunity for anyone who is thinking about a career path that involves the global economy and viewpoint. All instruction is in English. Students will receive two degrees: one from MSOE and one from THL. Students will graduate on schedule, if they stay on track in the EE Curriculum.

Electrical engineering students wishing to participate in the study-abroad program at THL must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of the Winter Quarter of their sophomore year and be in good academic standing at the end of Winter and Spring Quarters of their sophomore year. In addition, all of the following courses must be completed by the end of the Spring Quarter of the sophomore Year: EE 1910 EE 2050 EE 2060 EE 2070 EE 3050  or EE 3051B , EE 3102 MA 136 MA 137 MA 231  or MA 2314 MA 232  or MA 2323 MA 235 MA 262 MA 383 , GS 1001 , GS 1002 , GS 1003 , PH 2011 

Qualified transfer students may also enter the program using the AAS-EET to BSEE transfer plan.  This curriculum track is designed to allow AAS graduates of electrical engineering technology programs from colleges with which MSOE holds transfer agreements, to transfer efficiently into the BSEE program.

Program Educational Objectives

The electrical engineering program is preparing graduates to attain the following objectives within a few years of graduation:

  • Be productive and successful in their chosen career field by assuming greater degrees of responsibility and/or assuming leadership roles.
  • Actively participate in the affairs of their profession and continue with their professional development.

Student Outcomes

In support of the program objectives, graduates of the program will have:

  • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  • an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  • an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  • an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  • an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  • an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Electrical Engineering Cooperative Education Program

Cooperative education is designed to integrate classroom study with planned and supervised work experiences. The co-op program offers students an opportunity to gain industrial experience as part of their formal education. Co-op students are employed in technical capacities in a variety of companies. The co-op program is optional, and co-op positions are not guaranteed. Positions are awarded at the discretion of the employer after a competitive interviewing process.

Requirements for Electrical Engineering Co-op Program

  • Will consist of 3 segments consisting of two consecutive quarters with summers counting as a quarter
  • Must have full-time student status in the electrical engineering program at MSOE
  • Will begin after the completion of the sophomore academic year
  • Cannot be on probation after the completion of the sophomore academic year
  • If either the employer or the student do not wish to engage in the 2nd or 3rd co-op sequence the student may seek to complete the co-op experience with another employer
  • If the student drops out of the co-op program for any reason, whether due to his/her own decision or that of the employer, no adjustment of when courses are offered will be made to accommodate the student
