CV 724 - Industrial Wastewater Treatment3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description Course topics include the following: (1) review of treatment standards and regulations as mandated by the Clean Water Act, Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and various industrial standards; (2) presentation of the unit treatment processes for industrial water and wastewater pretreatment, including pH adjustment, equalization, coagulation and flocculation, activated carbon absorption, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, greensand filters/iron removal, evaporation, disinfection and oxidation processes, settling tanks, and oil and hydrocarbon removal. (prereq: graduate standing in MSCV program or department consent) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: • Identify environmental standards that apply to both direct and indirect industrial discharges
• Identify industrial waste stream characteristics from several major industrial categories and why these characteristics are important to the design of unit processes
• Develop an overall treatment strategy for an industrial waste stream
• Specify design criteria for physical, chemical, and biological unit operations and processes necessary to treat an industrial wastewater
