SS 4715M - Middle Eastern Culture3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course provides an overview of the various cultural aspects of contemporary Middle Eastern societies. Of particular importance will be the role of Islam as a religious, social, and cultural system among the various ethnicities and societies in the Middle East. Also examined will be the economic systems of nomadic and pastoral groups, agriculturalists, and modern urban dwellers; kinship, marriage and the family; women in Middle Eastern societies; and political systems in the Middle East.
