SS 475 - Addictions and Compulsions3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course introduces the student to various causes, consequences and treatments of compulsive and addictive behaviors. Included are drug and alcohol-related issues and compulsive behaviors that do not involve substances. Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: • Identify various causes of alcoholism, chemical dependency, and compulsive behaviors
• Objectively define and evaluate behavior regarding chemical substance and other addictions
• Address the consequences of chemical dependency and alcoholism
• Foster understanding of the differences between use and abuse of substances
