SS 471 - Sociology3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description The goal of this course is to develop in the student an awareness of the relationship between larger social forces and personal experience. Specific areas of focus include social organization, culture, socialization, family, stratification of societies, deviance, social movements and social issues. Through this course, the student should gain an increased understanding of the field of sociology, an enhanced ability to think critically, and the ability to apply sociological principles to everyday life. Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: • Be more specifically aware of key concepts of sociology and the critical changes taking place in the culture
• Be motivated to work toward greater sociological understanding through application of sociological principles
