BUS 1000 - Introduction to Business

Course Description
This course provides students with an introductory overview of the business environment and the fundamental principles that drive organizational success. Students will explore how businesses create value, respond to change, and make decisions in competitive and dynamic markets. Through case studies, discussions, and applied projects, students will develop a foundational understanding of business concepts and practices, preparing them for advanced coursework in the business curriculum and for careers in a variety of fields. Finally, students will also learn about MSOE and Rader School of Business resources and services exploring the MSOE Mindset, Common Learning Outcomes (CLOs), and other key initiatives that support the students.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of business concepts, terminology, and departmental functions
  • Explain the role of business in society, including ethical responsibilities, globalization, economic considerations, and stakeholder needs
  • Analyze how decisions in one area can impact others across the organization
  • Identify key MSOE university and RSOB department resources, policies, and support services
