ARE 2853 - Building Information Modeling

2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits
Course Description
This course prepares the student to understand the fundamentals and practical use of information technologies in the built environment. This course prepares the student to utilize computer-aided drafting and building information modeling (BIM) as a coordinated, integrated and consistent approach to a building project in design and construction decision making. Students are provided with the basics to produce high-quality 2D and 3D designs, and construction documents. This course will utilize Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Prereq: None
Note: None
This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Apply fundamental computer-aided drafting techniques using AutoCAD to create accurate 2D drawings that follow industry drafting conventions and standards.
  • Develop coordinated 3D architectural building models in Autodesk Revit by applying core modeling tools, view controls, and file management practices.
  • Apply building information modeling workflows to integrate architectural, structural, and MEP systems within a shared project environment.
  • Produce construction documentation, including plans, sections, schedules, annotations, and title blocks, using BIM tools to clearly communicate design intent.
  • Explain the principles of collaborative BIM workflows, including model sharing, coordination, and version control.
  • Describe how digital building information is organized and used within a BIM environment to support design coordination, documentation, and construction decision-making.
