CAE 1874 - Construction Methods

2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits
Course Description
Introduction to construction methods and procedures used in building and civil infrastructure projects. Emphasis on interpreting construction documents, understanding project sequencing, and analyzing site organization, safety practices, and environmental protection requirements. Students examine major construction operations including earthwork, foundations, structural systems, enclosures, and building services to develop an applied understanding of how projects are planned, coordinated, and executed. Laboratory activities reinforce lecture topics through hands-on exercises and practical applications.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Interpret construction documents including plans, specifications, and permits to understand project requirements and constraints. 
  • Describe construction sequences with consideration of scheduling, site logistics, safety requirements, and environmental protection measures. 
  • Explain the fundamental principles and methods of major construction activities including earthwork, foundations, structural systems, and building enclosures. 
  • Describe the integration and coordination requirements of utilities, and mechanical and electrical systems within the construction process.
