RSC 1070 - Math Pathways

4 lecture hours 0 lab hours 4 credits
Course Description
This course provides students with a foundation for the MSOE math sequence. Topics include properties of real numbers and exponents, linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, factoring, rational expressions and equations, radical expressions and equations, and student skill development. An emphasis is placed on development of number-sense, articulation of mathematics, and supporting the acclimation to college.
Prereq: Placement based on ALEKS score.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations with real numbers and algebraic expression, demonstrate correct use of order of operations, and simplify results
  • Solve linear equations
  • Solve linear, compound, and absolute value inequalities
  • Solve systems of equations with two variables with two unknowns
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations with polynomials, rational expressions, and radical expressions
  • Simplify exponential expressions
  • Factor common terms, trinomials, and special products
  • Simplify and solve complex rational expressions and equations
  • Simplify expressions with roots
  • Simplify and solve radical expressions and equations
  • Develop and apply the learning strategies necessary for academic success
