UXD 4901 - UX Senior Design

1 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits
Course Description
In this capstone course students work on an agile team to complete a significant user experience project. Student teams must scope, research, ideate, prototype, validate (when possible) a product and document their design process. The course culminates in a presentation of the prototype to a client and UX program faculty. Teams meet regularly with the client(s) and instructor to track project progress and mitigate issues. 
Prereq: Completion of core courses through junior completion year–a maximum of two may be missing–or a plan of study to complete the degree within one term of completing UXD 4901. The plan of study must be approved by the UX program director.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Employ inclusive, human-centered design and other appropriate methodologies to create innovative solutions to a client design challenge
  • Engage with client to determine requirements for solution to client-articulated problem
  • Conduct a comprehensive needs analysis by performing primary and secondary research on project requirements and user needs
  • Use professional software tools to create wireframes and low-fidelity, high-fidelity, and interactive prototypes
  • Iterate designs using feedback from client, instructor, and peers
  • Demonstrate effective collaboration skills by navigating team dynamics and providing constructive feedback to teammates
  • Exercise professional integrity by evaluating and applying ethical standards of UX and contemporary technology
  • Deliver a polished and professional presentation tailored to effectively communicate with a client
