EGR 1001 - Exploring Engineering2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits Course Description Students will learn about the different disciplines of engineering and related fields through lectures, discussions, research, hands-on activities, and interacting with MSOE community members working in the disciplines. Students will engage in student-centered active-learning exercises focused on career exploration and student success. Students will decide which fields might be a great match for them and work with an advisor to create a course plan for further exploration in their majors of interest. Students will choose in-major courses to enroll in for the following term. Prereq: None Note: Only students in the Engineering Explorers Pathway program may enroll This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explore strengths, values, skills, and interests that influence major and career choice
- Recognize differences between fields of study at MSOE
- Critically evaluate degree options by utilizing self-reflection, career research, and decision-making strategies
- Research and describe careers and day to day work associated with fields of study of interest to the student
- Investigate career options through interaction with the MSOE community and its partners
- Demonstrate understanding of one’s own career aspirations and fit with MSOE majors
- Determine specific majors of interest at MSOE to pursue in the following term
